Cadillac Deville

THE CADILLAC DEVILLE The Grand-daddy of Sedans is being put to rest…

First developed in 1949, the Cadillac Coupe Deville rolled off the manufacturer floor onto the open road. It has been one of Cadillac’s best selling vehicles since that time. However, for all those Deville lovers, the obsession will soon end the year 2005 marks the end of the Deville’s fifty plus year run.

But before we discuss the new, let’s look at the ever so popular Cadillac Deville. Considered one of America’s best-selling luxury cars, the Cadillac Deville has come through several reincarnations over the last fifty years.

As an infant in 1949, the Deville was only offered as a Coup, however, in 1954 the popular sedan style made their way to mainstream. One of the most popular cars in the seventies was the Cadillac Deville Fleetwood model, later sold as an optional feature in the eighties on Cadillac Deville’s.

In 1994, the Cadillac Deville went through a severe overhaul. Not only was the line of Coup Deville’s dropped from manufacturing; the Deville’s wheelbase grew to 113.8 inches rather than the 111 inches used on the Seville furthermore the Northstar V-8 engine was introduced to some models of the Cadillac Deville, offering drivers speed and luxury.

One of the most notable accomplishments of the Cadillac Deville occurred in 2000, when the manufacturer offered night vision on models as an optional buy. Although, thought to do well in sales at first this option was soon eliminated four years later, due to lack of sales.

In recent years, the Cadillac Deville offers buyers a selection of three distinct models, the Deville DTS, a sporty Deville the DHS, a Deville of luxury, and the base model Deville, which offers the driver a Cadillac at an affordable price.

The Deville offers its drivers a roomy and smooth ride however, it’s capable of great speeds without the loss of ultimate driving control.

So what’s going to replace this ever so loved sedan? If you guessed another alphanumeric successor, you are right- the new 2006 Cadillac DTS will precede the grand-daddy of sedans, the Cadillac Deville.
