I would like to welcome Richard to our club. He has a beautiful 1967 Cadillac DeVille convertible.
I purchased this car in May of this year. Although it looks pretty good from 20′, there are a couple of small paint blemishes that I will take care of this winter. Otherwise the body and chrome are pretty straight. The car was repainted in 2006 by the individual I purchased it from. I believe everything is stock except for the after market 8-track, and except as noted below, everything works.
The car wasn’t driven much over the past few years and routine maintenance and replacement of wear parts wasn’t done. Since I bought the car I have totally rebuilt the front end (upper and lower control arm bushings, ball joints, tie rods, idler arm and steering gear box) installed front disc brakes and new Cooper tires. Now it “drives like a Cadillac”.
After a complete tune-up it moves right out to about 80 mph then starts to float, so this winter I’ll pull the heads and replace the lifters and push rods, have the valves ground and new seats and guides installed and rebuild the carb and distributor.
I have a constant electrical drain and the climate control doesn’t work correctly and the air conditioner isn’t hooked up, so that gets addressed next week. The Portland CLC annual cruise-in and show is this weekend, so the next couple of days will be spent detailing the car to get ready for that. Sorry the pictures aren’t better quality. I’ll hopefully have some better ones after this weekend.
Lets give Ricard a big CadillacCountryClub Hello! Thanks for sending in the pictures and joining our club.

In the article, he mentions a constant electrical drain. I had the same problem with a 1971 Fleetwood that I owned. It turned out to be the external voltage regulator. Once I replaced it, the problem was cleared up. It was located on the firewall, I believe. It was easy to change too. I had it happen on another car of mine and after changing the alterator, it cleared up. Remember to make sure that the battery is fully charged though first, before installing the new alterator or, you will ruin the new one.
What a beautiful convertible! I love the color combination!

Wayne – the regulator is exactly what the problem was. I’m still fighting the A/C issues but think I might be close to having that fixed. I’m getting a periodic squeal even with the A/C unit now unhooked. Haven’t determined where it’s coming from but am thinking it’s the water pump as the car runes a little warm at times. I think this winter that along with the PS pump and alternator are getting replaced just so I know what I’ve got and don’t have to keep chasing ignoring issues.
Thanks for your compliments!

Welcome to CCC, Richard,
What a stunningly beautiful vehicle. The combination is striking and it sounds like the car has found a good home. I hope you enjoy the car for many years to come. I’m not sure where you hail from, but perhaps we’ll meet at a future CLC show.
Again, I enjoyed seeing your car.

Thanks Earl. I live in Vancouver Washington – just across the Columbia River from Portland, Or.

Welcome & Thanks for sharing your beautiful ride! Love the awesome colors together too and after a few issues get taken care of, looks like you will have a awesome show piece. If you get time look back over some of the old post there was a post Vinny posted a few pictures ihad taken while at that CLC Show @ AACA Museum in Hershey PA. I think there was couple 1967 in that show!

Dan,
Thanks for the compliments and info on the older posts!

What a great welcome!
Could the squel be coming from a loose/worn alternator belt?
richard fabbro says
Could be belts Vinny. I’ll replace them next week when I get home. Better to do upfront than to break down on the road. With the car having sat as long as it did aged hoses and belts can create on-going headaches. Thanks for the advice.
