1976 Cadillac elClasico

By Vinny O'Hare

So starting off this week we have 5 or 6 really cool Cadillacs. Yesterday I asked you to identify Tommie’s Cadillac. I was rather shocked when Bruce Jolsen almost guessed it.

The car is a 1976 Cadillac Coupe elClasico. According to Tommie there was only 100 made. I know I have never seen one before.

Here is a little video I put together for Tommie with all the pictures. I love the hood ornament and the headlight covers. I am sure you are going to ask so yes the spare tire cover is metal and not some plastic aftermarket type product.  If you want to see all the pictures head over to our 1976 Cadillac set on Flickr.

Tomorrows car will be one that was owned by a famous celebrity. He actually never took delivery of it as he passed before the car was ready. This actor is famous for his westerns! Can you guess who I am talking about? Here is a tip. He had a 4 letter nickname. Since the car was custom I can’t have you guessing what it is.

What is there to say, the car is so stunning I am speechless. What an incredible Cadillac. I would like to know a bit of the story behind the car. Was it in fact made for him? Was it a factory option or an ordered custom? Has he owned it from new, or did he find it somewhere? How often does he use it?
Absolutely beautiful automobile, thanks for sharing with us.

I am going to ask Tommie all this. Maybe I should of asked him to be on a podcast or something. I was doing some reading on this and they produced some as early as 1970. I am not sure but I think this was done outside of Cadillac by individual dealers.

The one article I read made sense to me, it said during the gas crisis dealers in the NY/NJ area send the least selling model they had on the floor to custom coach builders. This was usually done with the Calais Coupe.

I gave Tommie my phone number, If you have ever watched the show Carfellas you will see instantly he is a walking encyclopedia when it comes to Cadillac, not like me who forgets stuff 5 minutes after you tell me something lol. Tommie is from Long Island and I am sure I will be making the trip out to his dealership. http://www.broadwaymotorsny.com/

That Cadillac was also produced in 1970, Those types of cars were not produced by Cadillac,
They were produced by various Coach Companies with permission from Cadillac, usually they were special
    ordered.

Nice Cadillac. WOW! (I’m guessing that the mystery western actor is John Wayne)
