2013 Cadillac XTS NY Auto Show

By Vinny O'Hare

Today was the first day that I attended the New York Auto Show and I was amazed by the amount of good looking Cadillacs once again. It was really hard to choose pictures to put in the post as both the ATS and the XTS looked amazing.

The new Cadillac XTS features a 3.6L direct injection engine and advanced all-wheel drive system, marking a shift to more-efficient performance in a spacious luxury sedan. The XTS also has a limited slip differential, Magnetic Ride Control and rear air suspension.

Ok that’s the technical specs, what I saw was a hot Cadillac. Cadillac really did a great job on the replacement for the STS and the DTS. There were two XTS’s on display today and I had a hard time choosing between which color I liked the best.

This was a metallic brown color that almost looked silver to me. It was just sharp looking in person. I will have plenty of pictures over the next few days. I had a lot of fun learning from the smart people on the show floor. Another highlight of the day was my walk-through of the Cadillac Cue system which is the future of all cars and Cadillac is once again the front runner.

Speaking of Cadillac being the front runner, it was 100 years ago that Cadillac introduced the first electric start vehicle at the NY Auto Show.

As I was getting out of the Cadillac Cue simulator which by the way is a replica of the XTS interior and comfortable beyond belief Donald Trump and his daughter Ivanka took my place. Kind of exciting that I was in the right place at the right time to get a good picture of them with Don Butler of Cadillac.

Looking forward to taking more pictures tomorrow and learning more about the ground-breaking things Cadillac is doing. It is a very exciting time in the history of Cadillac.

    Vinny-

looks like you were able to attend before the masses and get some nice shots; much appreciated. How does the size of the XTS compare to the DTS?

    Hi Ken

This is the first year I have a press pass, going back in a few hours if I ever get to bed that is.

As for the size between the XTS and the DTS it is hard to tell without them being side by side but I would have to say that the XTS looks slimmer. If I had a choice between the two I would pick the XTS hands down.

Are you planning on taking in the show?

Was the Cadillac Ciel there? Now that is an amazing concept car, a 4 door convertible which is sleek and fits 4 full-size people. Sure hope they make it!

No David the Ciel wasn’t there. I was disappointed as well but it may show up today as they were moving cars in and out when I was leaving.

    Vinny,
You always share great information, great pictures and now a very cool experience, you with “The Donald and The Ivanka”.
I’m glad you were there before the public auto show openning where getting any photos are usually obscurred by more people than cars.
I look forward to seeing more of your auto show photos.
Is there any chance of Cadillac re-introducing the two-seater roaster?
Does the 2013 cadillac offer more interior room?
Will the new Cadillac cars offer a hybrid similar to the Chevy VOLT?
I really enjoy your newsletter and photos. Thanks again for what you do so well, keeping us aware of Cadillac’s past, present and future.

The DTS is 5 inches longer than the XTS and less than two inches wider. Comparable interior space…

Thanks for answering that Lorraine, you have been a big help for me the last few days. Your knowledge of Cadillacs is amazing.

Glenn – I think we will have a two seat roadster somewhere along the line but the XLR numbers weren’t so good in the last year if I remember correctly. It may take time before we see them build one again. I say 5 years but you never know. Just thinking out loud for a minute but I can totally see the ATS turning into a two seat with a V and having a convertible. Maybe that is what we will see. Gives me something to hope for since the XLR is my favorite Cadillac of late.
