East Coast Cruise Night Cadillacs 9-10-2013

By Vinny O'Hare

I am going to interrupt our 5 days of Cadillacs from Sundays post and bring you the highlights from the cruise night I attended. Guess we will just extend it a day and call it 6 days of Cadillacs.

Lady Paula posing with a 2006 Cadillac CTS-V

Last nights show at Resorts World casino had a lot of Cadillacs. They also had some beautiful models posing with some of the cars. The models were there to promote the SuperTuners show which will be at Resorts this Saturday. Not exactly my cup of tea but I have the feeling I will be there.

Anyway on to the Cadillacs. This Cadillac pictured here with the lovely Lady Paula was a stunning 2006 Cadillac CTS-V with black wheels. Of course no one was looking at the rims when she was gracing the hood with those boots 🙂

While the beautiful models were there to support the other show they were nice enough to let the guys take pictures with their cell phones. At times it was like being in a mosh pit lol. I let the others enjoy taking pictures until the ladies stepped in front of a Cadillac then it was time to get my pics. I am not use to shooting models but I can see myself doing more as it was both fun and refreshing instead of looking at car bumpers.

Another thing that happened last night was I had the rare occasion of taking pictures of one of our one members cars. A few weeks ago Mike showed up with his 1977 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz.

When I told Mike about our club he signed up that night. The sun had already gone down but I snapped a few pictures of his Orange/brown Cadillac.

Here are a few more Cadillacs from the night. You will see more pictures of the Cadillac hearse in a later post.

1979 Cadillac Bayliff Custom for John Wayne

By Vinny O'Hare

I have to admit when I was told about this car last week by the Bow Wow Boys car club members at the East Coast Car Association cruise night I wasn’t sure what to expect. All they told me is I have to show up on Sunday to their car show to see the “John Wayne Cadillac”. I am glad I did as this is a 1 of 1 custom built 1979 Cadillac with a Packard body.  You can see some Cadillac features like the mirrors, panels, roof, etc. If you walked up close to this like I did and seen the Packard logo on it you would get confused but there is no mistaken that this is a Cadillac.

The Cadillac has all the makings of a Packard but is on a Cadillac frame so it is deemed a Cadillac. I did some research on this and what I came up with surprised me. This is from Coachbuilt.com.

“C. Budd Bayliff, was a huge Packard enthusiast who purchased the rights to the Packard name and trademarks in 1978 and soon introduced a line of Packard Custom Sedan and Coupe replicars based on late-model GM passenger cars at his 2100 Harding Highway shop in Lima, Ohio. His replicas ranged from simple cosmetic changes to elaborate body modifications such as new front and rear body structures with early-1930s style clamshell front fenders with side-mounts and a separate trunk. The front ends of some of Bayliff’s modern Packards look remarkably like those found on the 1970 Stutzes and are often mistaken for them at car shows. A long-wheelbase Bayliff Packard was built for professional boxer Ernie Holmes in the early 1980s.”

It seems that Mr Bayliff built a few cars a year and put the Packard name on it since he bought the rights to the name. Frank Sr from the tv show Jerseylicious is the owner of this Cadillac. He bought it off the guy that bought it off the estate, making him the 3rd owner. He has all the specs and the build sheet for the car.

John Wayne ordered this car to be built but passed away before it could be done. When you see the video you will see the inside door frame had a gray carpet that was suppose to make it look westernish (If that is a word) and tried to match the silver on the outside of the car. Frank says it drives like a dream, like a brand new car. I didn’t look to see how many miles were on the car guess I was too busy staring at it. Although the Duke passed away before Bayliff had the name Packard under his control he was building these cars for years.

1976 Cadillac elClasico

By Vinny O'Hare

So starting off this week we have 5 or 6 really cool Cadillacs. Yesterday I asked you to identify Tommie’s Cadillac. I was rather shocked when Bruce Jolsen almost guessed it.

The car is a 1976 Cadillac Coupe elClasico. According to Tommie there was only 100 made. I know I have never seen one before.

Here is a little video I put together for Tommie with all the pictures. I love the hood ornament and the headlight covers. I am sure you are going to ask so yes the spare tire cover is metal and not some plastic aftermarket type product.  If you want to see all the pictures head over to our 1976 Cadillac set on Flickr.

Tomorrows car will be one that was owned by a famous celebrity. He actually never took delivery of it as he passed before the car was ready. This actor is famous for his westerns! Can you guess who I am talking about? Here is a tip. He had a 4 letter nickname. Since the car was custom I can’t have you guessing what it is.
