Avon Walk For Cancer

By Vinny O'Hare

Hi all I am sorry I haven’t been sending out newsletters as often as I usually do. I guess between work and having beautiful sunny days I have been spending a lot more time away from the computer. That is going to change as I have a ton of emails with pictures of celebrities from the 1950’s in Cadillacs courtesy of our new member John. You will meet him in the next newsletter. Anyway to my point.

I am walking to defeat breast cancer in the Avon walk in October here in New York City and I could use your help if you can. If not I totally understand and its all good. Just send me good thoughts so I am able to find the energy to walk 39 miles during the weekend of October 20-21st.

You may already know someone whose life has been touched by breast cancer. If you don’t, chances are you someday will. Now is the time to take action. Your tax-deductible donation can help ensure that we can make those statistics decline and that those already suffering can get the care and treatment that everyone deserves.

I am required to raise $1800 and I am almost there but I could use some help. I am at $1470 as I write this and my goal is $3000. If you have read enough and want to donate click here.

Our club has no membership dues and that will always be the case. I was on the border even writing this post on the site but if you have enjoyed the site and the hard work I have been doing for about 10 years now and want to pay it back a little now would be a good time.

I will sweeten the deal a little bit. Everyone that donates will receive a copy of the Cadillac pictures book that we published earlier this year. Consider it my thank you gift for donating to a good cause. It doesn’t matter how much you donate you will get a book!

Feel free to share this post with your neighbors and friends and share it in social media if you can.

Thanks in advance for helping me even if it is only with good thoughts! Click Here to donate.

In the time it took you to read this, another woman has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Chrysler 300 to a Cadillac

By Vinny O'Hare

Guest Post by Wendy C.

Buying a car is an expensive prospect, but nothing beats the feeling of driving a new vehicle off the lot. Unfortunately, if you want to make sure that you drive off in a car, truck, or SUV that will serve you well for years to come, you’re going to have to do some research first.

Recently, I began evaluating the Chrysler 300 as it compares to a Cadillac CTS. They have similar body styles and seating arrangements, and I have had positive experiences with both manufacturers since I started driving many years ago. After browsing around online for a bit, I decided it was time to visit a St. Louis Chrysler dealer and also check out a local Cadillac dealer so that I could test drive both cars for comparison’s sake.

Right away, I noticed that the Chrysler 300 is a longer, wider car. Even though it seats five, just like the Cadillac, there seems to be a lot more leg room in the Chrysler. If you’re planning on having passengers in your back seat on a regular basis, that extra space will likely have a big impact on your final auto-buying decision.

Similarly, the 300 has more cargo space as well. The trunk is spacious and ready to accommodate a full haul from the grocery store, all kinds of sporting equipment, luggage for a long vacation, or whatever else you might need on the road. The CTS has space, but not nearly as much.

As far as fuel economy is concerned, the expected MPG is about equal despite size differences. The Chrysler gets 14-19mpg in the city and 23-31 on the highway. The Cadillac gets 16-18 and 26-27 respectively.

The CTS does have a longer and more comprehensive warranty, but the 300 still has the solid 3 year/36,000 guarantee that most auto shoppers have come to expect. The Chrysler is also much less expensive, and of course, price isn’t something you can just ignore when thinking about a new car. Whether you’re buying it outright or making monthly payments, you want to make sure that your vehicle suits your budget as well as your style.

Of course, you can open up your selection to other makes and models, too. With both of these cars sitting approximately two months on the lot before they sell, you have time to think things over carefully and make the right decision for your new vehicle.

1969 Cadillac Eldorado in Arizona

By Vinny O'Hare

Tom from Arizona sent in these pictures of his beautiful 1969 Cadillac Eldorado. He sent these to me months ago but they got lost in my email until today.

This elegant Eldorado was purchased new at Columbus Car Co. in Columbus, OH. In November of 1968. It was bought new by Wesley H. Minister as a Christmas present for his wife Millie. I purchased this Caddy in May of 2011 and it has a very interesting history. It is an all original, 34k mile car. What makes it unique is it was ordered through the General Motors “COPO” program (Central Office Production Order). Cadillac at the time had a “Special Request” option for all their models. You could custom order the exterior color or the interior color and fabric as long as it was a previous year Cadillac selection and conformed. This car was ordered under this program to be painted a 1957 Cadillac color, Arlington Green, which is still on the car. 5 vintage unopened cans of this color were in the trunk. Note the – – for paint code. It also came with the very expensive Vogue bias ply tires, original in the trunk. Most all options are on this car including “seat heat” (a bun warmer!). I have the build sheet verifying all the options. Pretty neat ride and one that’s had a very good life!

Thanks Tom for sending these in. I am sorry I didn’t get the pictures up sooner.
