Our friend Earle sent over a great article on the history of Cadillacs and how they shaped the company into what it is today. I enjoyed clicking on all the pictures in the slideshow and seeing the history. I thought you may enjoy it also. Thanks Earle for sending it into us.
The Cadillacs that shaped Cadillac – MSN Autos14 great cars from America’s most enduring luxury brand Cadillac!Cadillac was formed in 1902 by Henry Leland, an engineer who named his new company after a French explorer who founded Detroit. A former gunsmith, Leland understood precision craftsmanship. That dedication to quality earned Cadillac a reputation for excellence and sparked the “Standard of the World” ad slogan that would define the brand. Cadillac was indeed the standard of the world through the 1960s, but its reputation diminished in the latter part of the 20th century. A product renaissance that started in the early 2000s continues to this day, and Cadillac’s current models once again rank among the world’s best. |
I saw this 1959 Cadillac over in the Hemmings auctions and can’t wait to see what it goes for. I think I am going to include more Cadillac auctions in our newsletter.
Of course if you want to see all the live auctions on EBay you can head to the forum. We added a special section a few weeks back that pulls live auctions for just Cadillacs.

I love to re-read the story of Cadillac’s winning of the Dewar trophy–how three cars were dis-assembled and thrown into heaps, then, how three running vehicles were assembled there-from! The company’s firsts are a matter of historical record, and I am gratified to have the vehicles that I do. Although it is the “Oldies” that thrill me now, I fully support the current thrust to maintain that supremacy, and have a copy of “The Penalty of Leadership” hanging on my wall for inspiration. BC
