James sent in this picture of Cadillacs with 48 years difference side by side. I thought it was a great photo and wanted to share it with our members.
I am at a loss for words as it is just amazing how far we have come in under 50 years. Thanks James for sending this picture in. It really is amazing to see these two cars side by side.
My question for our members is” Which one would you pick if they were to offer one to you for free? Leave your choice in the comments.
Jim says
I would pick the XTS

What a contrast! If I had to choose which one I would take across this country though, on comfort alone, I’d have to choose the 1963♥
VinnyO says
How do you know you would have more comfort in the 63. I would guess it would be the XTS that has a better and more comfortable ride.
Daniel Gouker says
I would take the new they so more advanced with new technogly in today Cadillacs
Jerry Paskiw says
Vinny , throughout the years one thing has remained the same .
The Cadillacs of yesterday and today both had the impressive grilles.
I am anxious to see the functionality of the new computer interface and how it relates to the cabin .
It may be the benchmark for the future and the saviour of the Cadillac division
VinnyO says
Jerry after I saw the computer interface I can tell you two things. 1 it is impressive and 2 it is here to stay. If you have an ipad I believe you can download a simulator from the apple store. I will have to find a link.

Without a doubt I would take the DeVille! Back then EVERYONE knew a CADILLAC! I am proud of the current Cadillac technology, but they are not as distinctive in styling as they used to be! For me the bigger the better!

The old one. I have an 07 Escalade. 83 Fleetwood and 84 Eldo Biarritz. I love driving the older ones.

The 1963 Cadillac Coupe de Ville. My friend had one when we were growing up threw are teensand he let me drive it a few times while he was making out in the back seat with some chick from school, I love to drive that old Caddy when I was given the chance. No I would take the ’63 over the new one, more things can go wrong with the new one too.It has only been out a few months, see what it is like in 5 years from now and the problems it has incountered by then.I remember when Cadillac brought out its 4-6-8 in about ’82 and it was suppose be a great Cadillac, it was nothing but major problems and the idea was abolished in 2nd year of production. Also the last of the Big Cadillac, the Fleetwood Brougham serie 1989-90 I think, could pull a 38’house trailer no problem, this new Cadillac, would it pull the same?, I don’t think so.
I go with the heaver ’63.
Mind you this picture of the ’63 and the new cadillac, would make an excellent painting on one of my T-shirts.
Thanks,

So far the Deville is winning but I kind of expected that since most of out members are classic owners 🙂

While the older one would have a better ride, in my opinion, I never was a fan of that styling. My father had a 4 door hardtop “63 and the square-ish styling turned me off. My favorite was the ’58 Fleetwood with those beautiful chrome skirts and Batman type fins. They were regal. All that said, If I only had the ’63 and the new one to choose from, I’d choose the new one.
Dennis Piccirilli says
No doubt I’d choose the 1964 model–it’s the only model year that sported a horizontal body-colored divider through the grill. Lots of shoulder/legroom for six people–that’s what Cadillac used to mean and it still should.
merrill krueger says
Hard to pick the 63 is the old style of how they were made and the statement that was projected from the car in the shape and body lines . The new one has the modern shape and some of the old style cues but just dont got the sharp cadillac body lines . I would have to take the 63. As I have a 65 .
Jim Driscoll, Sr. says
I would choose the 1963 Cadillac Coupe De Ville for three reasons. The price, the enjoyable ride of a comfortable car and the fact that you can carry six passengers in the traditional style.
Jim Driscoll, Sr. says
I enjoy my 2002 Cadillac DHS Eligance Sedan.
VinnyO says
The score so far is Deville 7 XTS 2
I am not sure I am allowed to vote in this one. I like the way Jerry didn’t answer the question either lol. I am along the same line of thinking as him. I have sat in the XTS though.
The good news is the XTS is starting to hit dealers all over the place, this week I have seen them advertised in the showrooms in Atlanta, KC, Chicago, and Texas.
I can tell you that you are going to be amazed by the paint colors.
J. Spagnuolo Jr. says
hmmm .. the “oldie but goodie” I guess ….. I like seeing the looooong hood when I drive !
J. Spagnuolo Jr. says
ps … if the newer one were a V coupe …. I would definitely pick that !!
Saw a couple in Pasadena last Sunday & they looked over the top !!
VinnyO says
I doubt the XTS will ever be made for a V.
Morgan Forsmark says
The Cadillac on the left side of the photo is a 1964 not a 1963.
