A few weeks ago on my way home from Vegas at night. I am cruising doing the speed limit when a black Cadillac SRX passes me about 25 mph faster than I am going. I say to myself cool let him be the rabbit. I can up my speed a little bit.
I am driving on a 2 lane highway in the middle of the desert with no turn offs so I press the gas a little bit. About 3 miles later I couldn’t even see the srx as he slowly pulled away from me.
I come off a huge sweeping hill and before I can even look to see what speed I was going I see a trooper. I yell a few curses words and its wakes Debbie up. (Gotta love a girl that can sleep at high speed) Very cleverly hiding in a spot where I am sure he has got people before.
Lights go on, I see him coming. It took me a while to slow down safely and pull over. My first time ever being pulled over. I was calm as he approached the passenger side and asked for license and registration etc.
He asked me how fast I was going. I told him I think about 80. And he told me what the radar gun told him. At first I was surprised and then realized I was coming off the big hill.
There was no way of talking the cop out of the ticket and I knew it. I was very respectful and even thanked the officer because I didn’t realize I was going that fast.
I am thinking the SRX was going so fast he opted not to even bother chasing him.
My option is go to court, Pay the $380 fine and have it go on license, insurance etc, or go to traffic school for $185.
Tomorrow at 4pm I will be in traffic school.

The trooper was very nice. It seems like I am in the 83% http://www.cbs5az.com/story/24755697/dps-aircraft-catches-133-speeders-along-us-93

What bad luck, Vinny! you could have used that money to buy an extra Christmas gift for Debbie! Out here in Zimbabwe we don’t have that many speed traps. If we do get caught in one, we just pay the fine of maybe $100 tops and proceed on our way… Even so, we tend to drive slower here as the roads aren’t that great and most of them are single-lane highways so you have to be careful all the time. Lots of big haulage trucks impede one’s progress, too, as they make their ponderous way up to Zambia and the Congo. Anyway, here’s wishing you and all the club a happy Christmas and a Cadillac-filled new Year. From Brian Yockney, in Chinhoyi, Zimbabwe, Africa!

Sounds like driving is a little different than over here in the USA.
From Wikipedia
The maximum speed limit on Interstate Highways is 75 mph. This limit may be applied outside of “urbanized areas”, where speeds of over 85 mph on any highway is considered “excessive”. Within “business or residential” districts, exceeding the speed limit by more than 20 mph is considered “excessive”. Within “urbanized areas”, 55 mph speed limit citations are given for “waste of a finite resource”. This exception only applies within a 10 mph threshold. As long as the speed does not exceed 65 mph, the infraction is not recorded as a traffic violation for the purposes of a point system.

Years ago I rode with a college roommate across Middle America. When we got on the Kansas Turnpike or some road in Kansas, the posted speed limit read 80 miles per hour. No way would that 1953 Chevy keep up that speed!

A few days later my daughter in law Liz got a speeding ticket about 10 miles from where I got mine. Same state trooper.
