Duke of Windsor’s Cadillac Up For Auction

By Vinny O'Hare

A rare Cadillac will be going over the auction block on November 21st by Sotheby’s. It is a 1941 Cadillac custom built for the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, the Cadillac is named “The Duchess”. It is expected to go for anywhere from $500,000 to 800,000. Personally I can see it going higher than that. Not bad considering it was $14,000 when it was originally purchased. It will be interesting to see what it goes for. There may even be a bidding war.

Duke of Winsors Cadillac

While browsing the Sotheby’s website I saw they just had an auction for a picture of Marilyn Monroe and a 1941 Cadillac. Very nice curves if I do say so myself. Wouldn’t mind doing a replica to this in a updated setting. All I need is a 1950’s Cadillac and a model. Going to add this to my to-do list. This picture sold for $11,250.

Grand National Video

When Karl told me last week that he couldn’t stay for the awards I figured there would be a video up online and sure enough there is.  It is in two parts, Thanks to Earle for sending it in. At the 47 minute mark of the second video you can hear Earles Cadillac getting named 1st place for his class.

They also have sessions from the event so if you missed any Subscribe to their channel and see them all.

Thanks for the post. However, that is not a 1941 Cadillac that Marilyn is leaning against. looks more like 1952-1954

Fixed it to say 1950’s Cadillac since I can’t tell exactly what year it is.

Marilyn’s car is a 1964, Series 62 convertible: it was a gift from Jack Benny.

Whoever is the highest bidder for the Duke’s Cadillac will be one lucky man! Thanks for showing it. If I have the time, I want to see it in person. What a beautiful pre-war Cadillac.

I don’t know if the car is in NYC for the auction or what. If it is I would love to go see it and take pictures of it for all to see.
