I just saw a report on the latest thing Cadillac is working on. It looks pretty cool but I don’t see a time when I would possibly drive a car and take my hands of the wheel. The story starts at the 3:00 minute mark if you want to jump right to it.

It would have to be on the road and tested 5 or 6 years without any problems before I would trust it. Personally, even if it were deemed safe and trustworthy, I think I would find it less fun to use as I love all the mechanics of driving a car and actually taking part in the experience.
Also, what would happen if a deer jumped out in front of the car and I am reading a book while this auto drive were engaged? There would still be too many older cars on the road without this feature which would need monitoring.
No. I prefer to be fully aware and alert to ever trust this device. I like driving too much and wouldn’t enjoy it at all.

I guess I misunderstood the original question because I was ready to answer that I had already done that. I didn’t expect the announcement that “no driver required” was in the works. At my age, it all sounds a bit too futuristic. I enjoy the driving experience too much to give it up to a Roomba type experience. At least 75% of the fun of putting the Allante through the paces is the complete joy and ear to ear smile you get from negotiating that last corner and saying to yourself, “I did it!” I would not want to give that over to a bunch of circuits and chips. I vote to keep the “I” in driver.
