Cadillac Announces Prices for the XTS

By Vinny O'Hare

While at the New York Auto Show today Cadillac announced the pricing for the 2013 Cadillac XTS starting at $44,995. I was amazed when I heard the news since I have been spending so much time with these cars the last two days and I was thinking it was going to be in the 50-55k price range.

Today’s pictures from the NY Auto Show are once again of the Cadillac XTS but this time it is the platinum edition. I believe these Cadillac XTS’s are both considered concepts since they are not in production yet. Out of all the pictures I took of this car I decided to start off with this one as it shows the Cadillac as the star of this show.

This might be my favorite picture from yesterday as Lorraine and Don are explaining the XTS’s features to Donald while Ivanka looks like she is mesmerized by the beauty of the XTS.

Here is some details about today’s press release from Cadillac:

The 2013 Cadillac XTS luxury sedan, Cadillac’s most technologically advanced car yet, will be available at U.S. dealerships later this spring with a starting price of $44,995 including destination.

The all-new XTS is the only car in its class with standard Magnetic Ride Control, the world’s-fastest reacting suspension technology. Also standard and making its debut in the XTS, is CUE, Cadillac’s breakthrough in-vehicle user experience for control and connectivity.

Three option collections will be offered on the XTS: Luxury, Premium and Platinum. The XTS Platinum model represents the highest level of technology and luxury, including a unique front appearance, wheels and interior colors, materials and trim.  An advanced all-wheel-drive system, using Haldex technology to transfer power front-to-back, and side-to-side along the rear axle, will be offered on all three trim levels above the standard model.

“The all-new XTS redefines our approach to the luxury sedan by combining advanced technology, stunning design and confident performance,” said Don Butler, vice president Cadillac marketing.  “XTS brings new and exclusive technology, while still delivering the space and elegance that is Cadillac’s DNA.”

Cadillac is preparing for the debut of CUE first automotive use of capacitive touch, the technology used by many of today’s best tablets and smartphones.

A new CUE iPad Application, which replicates the center screen that is the hub of the system, is being used to familiarize dealers with the experience as well as provide videos and information. The App will be opened to the public via the App Store in May as the XTS launches.

“We’re taking advantage of the fact that CUE is parallel technology to tablets,” Butler said. “CUE is intuitive, in part because its control and command structure aims to be consistent with popular devices millions of people already use. The App adds to this by literally putting CUE into your hands, even before you can get into the car.”

Cadillac also will use OnStar to provide live assistance to XTS owners for CUE questions.  And Cadillac dealerships will contain certified technology experts to familiarize shoppers and drivers with the system.

2013 Cadillac XTS NY Auto Show

By Vinny O'Hare

Today was the first day that I attended the New York Auto Show and I was amazed by the amount of good looking Cadillacs once again. It was really hard to choose pictures to put in the post as both the ATS and the XTS looked amazing.

The new Cadillac XTS features a 3.6L direct injection engine and advanced all-wheel drive system, marking a shift to more-efficient performance in a spacious luxury sedan. The XTS also has a limited slip differential, Magnetic Ride Control and rear air suspension.

Ok that’s the technical specs, what I saw was a hot Cadillac. Cadillac really did a great job on the replacement for the STS and the DTS. There were two XTS’s on display today and I had a hard time choosing between which color I liked the best.

This was a metallic brown color that almost looked silver to me. It was just sharp looking in person. I will have plenty of pictures over the next few days. I had a lot of fun learning from the smart people on the show floor. Another highlight of the day was my walk-through of the Cadillac Cue system which is the future of all cars and Cadillac is once again the front runner.

Speaking of Cadillac being the front runner, it was 100 years ago that Cadillac introduced the first electric start vehicle at the NY Auto Show.

As I was getting out of the Cadillac Cue simulator which by the way is a replica of the XTS interior and comfortable beyond belief Donald Trump and his daughter Ivanka took my place. Kind of exciting that I was in the right place at the right time to get a good picture of them with Don Butler of Cadillac.

Looking forward to taking more pictures tomorrow and learning more about the ground-breaking things Cadillac is doing. It is a very exciting time in the history of Cadillac.

2012 New York Auto Show Coverage

By Vinny O'Hare

Hi everyone! I realize that I haven’t sent out a newsletter in a few weeks. Just been busy and have had a cold that won’t go away. Tomorrow I am scheduled to go to the 2012 New York Auto Show at the Jacob Javits Center.

This is my first year having a press pass which I have been trying to get for about 3 years now. Last week I bought a new camera lens that takes amazing pictures up close. Last year I took about 7000 pictures and had a great time speaking to the Cadillac reps on the show floor when I could.

I am hoping that they have the Cadillac Ciel there which has been rumored in advance. I am sure the Cadillac ATS will be there as will the XTS. Should be a lot of fun. I am just glad to be able to take pictures without people in my way.

I do have to warn you that I will be sending more emails than usual this week and most will feature new Cadillacs. I know our membership is mostly vintage and classic Cadillac type of guys but I feel it is important to show what Cadillac is coming up with now. These will be classics someday also. 🙂

If you want to see some details from last years Cadillac at the New York Auto show see our Cadillac video page.

I don’t really have a plan but maybe I will get some of the nice people at Cadillac to do a podcast with me or a video.
