Cadillacs – North American International Auto Show

By Vinny O'Hare

Last week when I was out in Las Vegas at the Auto Collection show I had a nice talk with my friend Drew Bennett who was on his way to the North American International Auto Show. Drew was nice enough to let me share his interview with Clay Dean who is the Cadillac Brand Director at GM Design. This is a great video and thanks again to Drew for letting me share it with our readers.

I was able to sit down with Cadillac Brand Director at GM Design, Clay Dean. Clay talked to us about so many great things with Cadillac.

What is really cool is the New Cadillac CTS-V race car spinning in the background. That thing looks like it fly’s with the huge spoiler on the back.
You can see Drews post and more pictures of NAIAS here. Drew also has a great set of shots of Cadillacs in his Flickr account.

Learn About Elvis Cadillacs

By Vinny O'Hare

Just got back from another trip to the Auto Collection show in Las Vegas. While most of the same Cadillacs were the same as my last trip a few months ago I did get a lesson in Cadillacs.

As I was walking around the show I came across a man name Jimmy Velvet who was there setting up his table. Jimmy was a close friend of Elvis and he has a book all about the photos he took over the years while he was touring. Just flipping through this book was an education in Cadillac history although that isn’t what the book is about. Jimmy has pictures of all the celebrities that he met over the years. I went through about 20 pages and saw many pictures of vintage Cadillacs usually with a celebrity in it. There was even a picture of Jimmy and Elvis mother standing in front of her Cadillac.

Jimmy and I hit it off and he told me some stories about Elvis’s Cadillacs and some that he owned also. Jimmy told me how he sold his 1949 Cadillac for $125, he told me about how they painted Elvis Cadillac from blue to pink before he gave it to his mother. It was really fascinating stuff  for me and I hope to do an interview with Jimmy someday. We talked for about an hour as he was signing autographs. Although I didn’t know who Jimmy Velvet was at the time I became a fan of his. If you are a fan of celebrities of the 1950s and up I encourage you to get Inside the Dream book.

While I was researching this I found a couple of cool pages about Elvis Cadillac Elvis Cadillacs.

Cadillacs at Barret Jackson Auctions

By Vinny O'Hare

Happy New Year – Hope you are not like me a little hungover and sitting on the couch watching the Barret Jackson Marathon on the Speed Channel. This is a rerun of last years show and they had some really cool Cadillacs up for auction. It was fun to watch, I just had to get up off the couch to make this post.

There was a 1958 Eldorado Biarritz convertible 815 that sold for $150,000. A 1935 Cadillac Series 40 FLeetwood special convertible from Florida with the original build sheet that went for $275,000. The Cadillac I liked was a 1959 Coupe De Ville that was custom that had no tail fins. Owned by Raymond Lloyd Who was friends with Howard Hughes who wanted the car but Raymond wouldn’t sell it to him. It sold for $147,000.
