1951 Cadillac Restoration

By Vinny O'Hare

I get a lot of emails as you can imagine but this one sent to me from Tom from Texas was great and he is allowing me to share his story and pictures from his restore project a 1951 series 61 Cadillac. Here is his email.

Vinnie,

Glad I found your site, and I plan to use it as time goes on here.  I have worked for a railroad for about 21 years now, and decided I needed a hobby to get my mind off the job and have another passion.  I found my first Caddy in 2001 which was a 1992 Sedan DeVille and fell in love with it.  I then decided to get real brave and buy a 1951 Model 62 near Corsicana that had been in storage(inside, thank God), but did not run and the engine was stuck.  Well it was a good buy at $1,850 and five years later, alot of lessons learned and about $35,000 I have my baby, which I named after the first and last owners of the car before me.  It was sold new in San Salvador, Elsalvador and I am still trying to trace the history on how it got here.  It ended its last career in Greenville, TX in the late 60’s and then went into storage about 1980, which was the last registration.

Thanks for letting me share a bit, and I have enclosed a few pictures of Vera-Jose.

Take care,  Tom D.  Fort Worth, TX

Now for the after pictures which I am sure you will look at a few times because Tom really did a great job with this restoration project.

I need your help – I am putting together a list of all the best resources when it comes to Cadillac’s and I want to know your favorite sites and forums. Just send me an email and tell me what sites you browse and go to for reliable information. Thanks Vinny

Cadillac Information and Errors

By Vinny O'Hare

I know it has been awhile since I sent out a newsletter, I have been busy but enough about that. I am looking forward to this week.

This week I am attending the New York Auto Show and will have a lot of pictures and videos of the new Cadillac Converg. I hate the name but love the idea of a practical Cadillac. If you can call it that, to me it’s a Chevy Volt in disguise – we will just have to wait and see if it ever goes into mass production. By the end of the week I promise I will have pictures and video.

UPDATES ABOUT THE 1959

There has been some facts about my last post about the 1959 Cadillac with the tv. It seems that this Cadillac is not what it was made out to be. As you can see from the responses on the post about the 1959 Cadillac. It seems to me that the nice folks over at the Imperial Palace got wrong information also. I have been corrected about this Cadillac from a few places. One Car-nection.com Cadillac database and the Cadillac Lasalle forum also had a post about MY wrong info. I can only post what I saw on the sign. This car seems to be something else then what that sign says.

Cadillac Flower Car

By Vinny O'Hare

A few months back I received an email from a guy named Earle who was going to a pro car show down in New Jersey. Since it was only a few hours away I figured I would just on a train and head on down but I guess I had the dates wrong as the show came and went without me being there.

I didn’t realize I missed the show until I got an email from Earle with pictures included. I was so bummed that I missed it,but thanks to Earle he made sure he took some pictures for us.

That is Earle standing next to his fine looking Cadillac. I really owe Earle for sending in all the pictures of his ride which can be seen on Earles page by clicking on the picture.

It is not often that we get such detailed pictures and a great story on how he became the owner. Thanks again Earle.

Now for the new Cadillac fans I have to say I am quite excited over the new Cadillac concept car he Converj. Although I am not a fan of the name the look and feel of the car is amazing. It has sleek lines and looks really fast although that is not what it is meant to be.  It is an electric car that is similiar to what Chevy has planned with the Chevy Volt except this one is in a much sleeker body style. I am hoping it moves from being a concept car to an actual production car. You can see more on Cadillac Converj.

As we are really in the need to break away from our oil dependancy in the USA this car could help us in a big way. Although the 40 mile range is not that big of a deal, think about the amount of times you just drive to the store and back. This could save a lot of gas that you purchase. Little step yes but a much needed one.
