Website Update is Live

By Vinny O'Hare 3 Comments

Last night I went ahead and changed the look and feel of the blog here. Although it looks kind of the same there is huge difference behind the scenes. Our website is now able to be read on a tablet or iPad for the first time without having to squint. While the main site is still not 100% where I want it to be the blog here is almost they way I like it. Sure I could have done a total redesign but like most people I hate change and I am sure our members don’t like change much either.

One thing the new update lets us do is have larger photos on the site. Let’s face it we are all getting older and our eyes are not what they use to be. What made me make the switch mostly was that WordPress the software we use stopped showing comments on the post. To me that is what makes the site work! I love getting comments on the site, wish we would get more actually.

Another thing I updated was the forms here. I can now set up a spot where our members can upload a picture of their car with details without me having to go in and do things like resizing the pictures or formatting the post. All these things are time consuming.

I can also offer the ability to post information about Cadillacs by the members. Sometimes in the comments I wish we had more information. Earle’s comment the other day about what to have in your car when you come across the country is exactly what I wish I could write! Now we can have members create a post. That ability will be coming shortly.

Fun Road Trip Map of the USA

By Vinny O'Hare 2 Comments

I have been planning on taking a trip across the country. Eventually I think we will be driving back to New York from Phoenix once the house is lifted. I stumbled across this fun graphic I thought I would share. It explains the roads a little and what you should have in your car when driving a long trip. Is there anything missing? What else would you bring with you?

Hurricane Sandy Update

By Vinny O'Hare 3 Comments

Since I have made the post about our house getting destroyed during the Hurricane I have been blown away by the amount of emails. Like I have said before when I started this club I have never thought about the reaction that people have had when they read the newsletters. The outpouring has been incredible to say the least.

Now that I am back home from Arizona it is time to start the rebuilding process. I took a bunch of photos of the house and as you will it is in pretty bad shape. There is talk of raising all the houses 10 feet or so in the air so rebuilding now may lead to cracked walls later but they can be fixed easier than building new ones.

Here is a set of Pictures of the house. We got some insurance money but not enough to put the house back the way it was. Who knew you also needed contents insurance inside flood insurance?

Once again thanks for your support and the wonderful emails I have received.

Hurricane Sandy

Hi all

Sorry I haven’t updated the site in a while. As most of you know I am located in NYC and got hit hard by the hurricane. We had almost 5 feet of water throughout our one story home.

We fled the house with our pets and the clothes on our back. We are waiting to hear from insurance.

I have lived in this house for 44 years and it took two weeks to throw away everything we own.

Avon Walk For Cancer

By Vinny O'Hare 3 Comments

Hi all I am sorry I haven’t been sending out newsletters as often as I usually do. I guess between work and having beautiful sunny days I have been spending a lot more time away from the computer. That is going to change as I have a ton of emails with pictures of celebrities from the 1950’s in Cadillacs courtesy of our new member John. You will meet him in the next newsletter. Anyway to my point.

I am walking to defeat breast cancer in the Avon walk in October here in New York City and I could use your help if you can. If not I totally understand and its all good. Just send me good thoughts so I am able to find the energy to walk 39 miles during the weekend of October 20-21st.

You may already know someone whose life has been touched by breast cancer. If you don’t, chances are you someday will. Now is the time to take action. Your tax-deductible donation can help ensure that we can make those statistics decline and that those already suffering can get the care and treatment that everyone deserves.

I am required to raise $1800 and I am almost there but I could use some help. I am at $1470 as I write this and my goal is $3000. If you have read enough and want to donate click here.

Our club has no membership dues and that will always be the case. I was on the border even writing this post on the site but if you have enjoyed the site and the hard work I have been doing for about 10 years now and want to pay it back a little now would be a good time.

I will sweeten the deal a little bit. Everyone that donates will receive a copy of the Cadillac pictures book that we published earlier this year. Consider it my thank you gift for donating to a good cause. It doesn’t matter how much you donate you will get a book!

Feel free to share this post with your neighbors and friends and share it in social media if you can.

Thanks in advance for helping me even if it is only with good thoughts! Click Here to donate.

In the time it took you to read this, another woman has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
