Jay Leno Takes The Cadillac ELR For a Ride

After seeing the new Cadillac ELR at the NY Auto Show I couldn’t wait to see it actually on the road. In this episode of Jay Leno’s Garage, Jay does exactly that. You can see it has some power and rides really smooth. I am glad to see Cadillac testing out new technology that helps us get away from the dependency of gas.

While I know our members won’t be trading in their 1950’s Cadillacs for a ELR it is fun to see all the new Cadillacs features. In the Jay Leno video he shows the details in the tail lights and how it looks like the car has a tail fin.

Cadillac Record Sales

Just received news that Cadillac has had its largest sales increase since 1976. This doesn’t really surprise me as Cadillac’s ATS is an entry level model. Something Cadillac has needed for years. I can only see the sales going higher as the Escalade gets a redesign and the CTS-V sport hits the dealers later this year. Then you have the ELR coming after that. It is very exciting times for a Cadillac fan like myself.

DETROIT – Cadillac’s year-to-date sales increase of 38 percent will be the brand’s largest since 1976, making the 110-year old brand the fastest growing major automotive brand in the U.S.

When sales are officially reported later today, Cadillac’s May increase of 40 percent will mark its 12th consecutive month of sales growth.

“Cadillac is back.” said Bob Ferguson, vice president, Global Cadillac. “Our growth is product-driven, new luxury vehicles with dramatic design and performance drawing new customers to showrooms.”

The ATS sport sedan, 2013 North American Car of the Year and Esquire Car of the Year, has been instrumental in attracting new buyers. Roughly 70 percent of ATS buyers are choosing their first Cadillac.  The XTS luxury sedan, introduced in the summer of 2012, had its best retail sales in May. Cadillac’s total sedan portfolio is up 122 percent so far in 2013.

Cadillac’s iconic Escalade will report its best May sales since 2008.
